Castello di Ama Wine Tasting

Castello di Ama

The tiny village of Ama is nestled in the heart of Chianti Classico, a rolling landscape of woods, vineyards and olive groves. The first references of the region's wines date back to 998, but the modern era began 35 years ago with the replanting of the estate vineyards. Of the 260 hectares, 90 were planted to vines and 40 planted to olives. The site itself is spectacular, at 1600 ft above sea level, it is the perfect exposure and ideal for Sangiovese, Merlot, Chardonnay and Pinot noir. The vineyards extend across four valleys referred to by their traditional names of Bellavista, San Lorenzo, La Casuccia and Montebuoni.

Marco Pallanti arrived in Ama in 1982, a young Florentine agronomist who became the estates winemaker after extensive technical training at the University of Bordeaux under the tutelage of Patrick Leon. A decade later in 1993 Lorenza Sebasti joined as CEO to continue the growth of Ama. 30 years later, Marco continues to share his passion for wines with the world – accompanied by his son, Arturo Pallanti who runs the export division in today’s company. The obsessive dedication to quality by Marco Pallanti and Lorenza Sebasti has made Castello di Ama not just one of Tuscany's greatest wine producers, but one of the finest wineries in the world.
